What’s Meant for You Won’t Miss You

My grandmother used to tell me all the time “If you are born to drown, you ain’t gonna burn up.”

I’ve been thinking about that saying alot.

It’s the kind of phrase that stops you in your tracks. It sounds dark and pessimistic. My grandmother was no nonsense and matter-of-fact.

But the longer you sit with it, and the more life you get under your belt, the more you realize it isn’t about despair at all. It’s about a profound, unshakeable truth: destiny has a blueprint, and you cannot outrun the things that are truly meant for your path.

My grandmother was giving me sage wisdom.

We spend so much of our lives trying to control every single thing. We build walls, we make meticulous plans, and we stress ourselves out trying to avoid the "fires" of life. We think if we just run fast enough or pivot smart enough, we can dodge every breakdown, every loss, and every major shift.

But this saying is a blunt reminder that the universe doesn’t work on our terms. If a specific lesson, a specific storm, or a specific ending is written into your story, no amount of dodging is going to change it. You can't burn up if you're meant to drown. The fire won't touch you, because your destiny lies in the deep water.

And honestly? There is a strange, liberating peace in surrendering to that.

If you have a calling, a mission, or a destination you are built for, the fires of life can’t destroy you before you get there. You are bulletproof to the things that aren't meant for you.

Accepting this isn't about giving up; it’s about shifting my energy. Instead of exhausting myself trying to control the uncontrollable, I learned to trust the journey. I realized that even when the water gets deep—even when I feel like I am completely submerged by life's challenges—it's all part of a larger design to shape who I am meant to become.

I survived the fire because it wasn't my end.

So when the deep waters come, don't panic. Take a breath, trust your strength, and just keep going. You were built to handle exactly what’s in front of you!
