The Honor I Never Saw Coming

There are moments in life that catch you completely off guard, pulling you out of the daily grind and forcing you to see your own journey through a different lens. Last week, I experienced one of those moments. I am still processing the fact that I was named Leader of the Year by my mentoring group, Project Diva International.

To say I am humbled, surprised, and incredibly grateful would be an understatement. When I started this journey, I wasn't looking for accolades; I was looking for a way to give back. What I didn’t realize was how much the girls and PDI would give back to me.

Mentoring these young girls has become a profound part of my own healing process. There is a specific kind of magic that happens when you sit and talk with a young woman who is navigating the same hurdles, doubts, and dreams you once faced.

I’ve realized that by being there for them, I’ve been able to be the person I needed when I was young. Every piece of advice, every listening ear, and every moment of encouragement I offer them feels like a quiet conversation with my younger self. It’s a reminder that while we can’t change our past, we can certainly use it to light the way for someone else’s future. In teaching them to find their voices, I’ve strengthened my own.

One of the most beautiful aspects of Project Diva International is the tapestry of women who lead it. Working alongside other women—each with their own unique experiences, triumphs, and perspectives—has been a masterclass in growth.

We often talk about how our diverse backgrounds better the girls we mentor, but the truth is, it has bettered me as well. We lean on each other, learn from one another, and create a space where vulnerability is a strength. This award isn't just a reflection of my work; it’s a reflection of the energy and wisdom I’ve absorbed from this incredible sisterhood.

Receiving this recognition has given me a moment to pause and realize that I flourish when in service to others.

To the girls of Project Diva: Thank you for letting me into your lives. You are the reason I show up, and your growth is the greatest reward I could ever ask for.
